It re-checks quietly in the background from time to time, and if it cannot reach the server it carries on working: the check fails open, never closed, so it can never interrupt a session or silence a mix. An offline machine keeps working for a long stretch before it needs to see the internet again.

Yes. One licence covers more than one machine at a time. Deauthorize removes the licence from the current machine, returning it to trial state and freeing the slot, so you can enter the key on another.
The plugin outputs silence and shows a persistent banner. Your session, settings and automation are preserved — entering a licence restores audio immediately.
